With the objectives of nurturing young talents for the thriving e-commerce industries and offering students more opportunities to gain exposure and practical experience, The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) will collaborate with PCCW Solutions Limited to launch a new internship programme in the academic year of 2019-2020.
At today’s (17 June) signing ceremony, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Prof. Alan Au Kai-ming, Dean of Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration of the OUHK and Mr. Clement CHIU, Director, Infrastructure Services of PCCW Solutions.
Under the agreement, students of the two new OUHK programmes, namely the “Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours in Digital Business” and “Master of Professional Management in Digital Business”, will be offered a one-term internship at PCCW Solutions as an integral part of their university studies. Students with outstanding performance might be offered a full-time position as Graduate Trainee after completion of the internship.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Alan Au expressed that the University is honoured to partner with PCCW Solutions, a leading IT services company in Hong Kong and the Mainland, in launching the internship programme. He noted that through this invaluable internship opportunity, students will not only be able to enhance their skills and knowledge under the guidance of veteran supervisors and practitioners, but also gain real-life work experiences and develop a holistic understanding of the impacts of digital transformation in the local and global business environment.
Prof. Au added that the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration has been actively fostering collaborations with companies and organizations to solicit internship and placement opportunities for its students. In 2018 alone, over 240 internships were arranged for undergraduate students majoring in accounting, banking and finance, marketing, hospitality management, sports management and more.
The internship programme with PCCW Solutions aims to train students to become future leaders for the fast-growing industry of digital business. During their internship, students will support the daily operations and project management of PCCW Solutions in different areas, such as digital marketing, business solutions, business analysis, application development and more. Students would be able to gain industry exposure, apply disciplinary knowledge and further improve their soft skills in a business environment. It is expected that students’ professional knowledge and skills as well as their employability and competitiveness will be greatly improved through this internship programme.
Under the digital reshaping of local and global economies, many companies have adopted digital business strategies in recent years.
